HEIRLOOM HIGHLIGHT: FLOUNCE FEATURED IN INSPIRED BY THIS FOR A FLORIDA TROPICAL WEDDING SHOOT

Sitting down to write this post sent actual chills running down my spine. I worked on this shoot in early 2016, and it was featured in Inspired By This on May 25, 2016. That day, and many of the days surrounding it, will always be etched in my memory. On May 25, 2016, my pregnancy became toxic, I started going into organ failure, and it was the very last night before my son, Richard was born.

To be honest, I don't really remember Cathy, of Cathy Durig Photography, reaching out with the good news that this shoot was featured. I was in the hospital, not checking emails, and by the time I was home and attempting to sort through work, the feature email slipped past me. Months later, when my life finally began resembling "normal" again, I went through the months of features that I was beyond behind in, and found the photos from this very shoot. My jaw dropped. It was so, so beautiful, and I got misty-eyed knowing there was such a beautiful feature that happened, that I was a part of, during one of the hardest times of my life.

Since the shoot, Cathy and I have followed along with each other as we've both become boy-moms, and she always reminds me of the beauty that exists in this journey. Thank you, Cathy, for having me be a part of this shoot!

For this shoot, Charmaine and I worked together to create the Flounce design. Flounce is a twist on the classic Flourish, but with an element of fun, and done in gold. What's better than a fun take on a classic? And, of course, gold calligraphy makes everything better. I love, love, love the way Cathy pulled together the mint, aqua, and orange colors for a fun, tropical wedding design. And that gold sequined bridesmaid dress? It's a favorite, for sure!

The wedding shoot took place at The Vinoy in St. Petersberg, Florida. Does it not make you want to pack your bags right this very moment and hop on a plane?

Head on over to Inspired By This to see the full feature, and give some love to the talented team who pulled it together:

FONT FRIDAY: MELANIE SCRIPT

Yikes! It seems like last week got away from me. Between prepping for a photo shoot at my studio in a few weeks, to building a new website, I somehow lost track of the days and missed a Font Friday. Man, I'm sorry about that!

May I make it up to you today? Yes? Well, thank you.

Let me introduce you to my friend, Melanie. She's sweet and sassy and everything I like. Loose, modern calligraphy fonts are having a moment right now, and Melanie is in the thick of it all. I particularly love the swashes that Melanie comes with, they help take a modern style and make it feel appropriate for formal wedding invitations. The swashes set Melanie apart in a sea of modern calligraphy fonts - they all have the beautiful long intro and ending swashes for the first and last letter, but not many of them have the beautifully flourished options for mid-word letters. Melanie does, and they're stunning.

So there you have it! My first Font Friday pick for August, and totally worth missing a week for, right? Head on over to Creative Market to grab Melanie for just $14 (that includes the extended license, guys!)

HEIRLOOM HIGHLIGHT: SAILBOAT INSPIRED INDIGO BLUE CALLIGRAPHY INVITATIONS FEATURED IN COASTAL BRIDE

This shoot was featured over a year ago, but since I was taking time away with my son, who was in the NICU all of last summer, I never had the chance to share it. It is one of my all time favorites. I grew up on the south short of Long Island, where the bay and ocean meet, and the smell of low tide fills me with nostalgia. When Cristina reached out with the concept of this shoot, I knew I had to be a part of it; it just felt like home to me. I mean, the idea of "the world is your oyster"? I adore that. Way more than I adore oysters, because let's be honest, they're slimy and gross and nowhere near as amazing as this shoot. At least, that's what I think.

What I love most about styled shoots is the creative freedom to play with designs and concepts that are a little different from what most Sincerely, Jackie couples select for themselves. I had been dying to great a deep indigo invitation, with stark white ink in modern style calligraphy; and this shoot was the perfect avenue for that creativity to happen! Look how incredibly lovely this shoot is. Every detail is perfect, from the feather bow tie to the actual sailboat the couple sailed away on. Cristina is the master of detail, and I am so glad my stationery was a detail she wanted to include.

This shoot was featured in Coastal Bride, and was a collaboration of some seriously talented vendors. Here's the full list of the talent that helped this day happen:

HEIRLOOM HIGHLIGHT - MAURA'S CUSTOM FLORAL MONOGRAM NAVY AND GOLD BRIDGEVIEW YACHT CLUB WEDDING INVITATIONS

Maura (and her sweet mother!) was one of my all time favorite brides. Like, ever. We worked together while I still had my studio in my home, and she came all the way from New Jersey with her mother for her consult. I knew the moment I met her that I adored them, and it sealed the deal when her mother sincerely complimented me on my original baby-pink 1970's bathroom (complete with lucite vanity pulls). These were my people, through and through.

It helped that Maura hired my dear friend Jainé, of Brklyn View Photography, as her photographer, because, well, Jainé is incredible and that's that. I knew instantly that not only would it be a dream to create these invitations, but that Maura's wedding would be the type I wish I could have attended.

While Maura's overall aesthetic featured a cheerful array of pinks, deep reds, and greenery - we kept the invitations classic, with a touch of nautical, as hint to the venue: the Bridgeview Yacht Club on Long Island. I tied in the florals with a custom crest, and leaves along the edges of the insert card. The entire suite was printed on crisp white cotton paper in navy blue letterpress, with a hint of my beloved champagne gold foil. The navy and white striped envelope liner tied in the nautical location, and the navy reply envelope was a rich, elegant accent.

Maura's invitation is politely called Prep, and is a showstopper in the Sincerely, Jackie studio.

*Guys, can I share a little secret? This isn't the first time I highlighted Maura's wedding invitations. GASP! I know, but I couldn't help myself because they're just so, so, so lovely! To see more, including the most charming day-of paper ever, visit this post right here*

FONT FRIDAY - RAVENSARA SANS SERIF

YOU GUYS! It's the last Friday of July and I have given you a Font Friday EVERY WEEK SO FAR! After taking so long off, it feels good to finish a month so strong, and I hope you've enjoyed all the selections I brought your way.

To end the month, I want to share Ravensara Sans, which I can officially say I am obsessed with. We already know how much I love a font that has weight variation, and I think Ravensara is kind of the sans serif sister to Manhattan, which I shared earlier this month. My favorite feature of Ravensara is that is has SO MANY options when it comes to the weight - from a uniformly thin line, to a chunkier thick/thin, it offers such versatility. Who doesn't love versatility?

For just $19, I need to add Ravensara to my must-buy list!

HEIRLOOM HIGHLIGHT - KAITLAN'S IVORY, BLUSH, AND GOLD NEW JERSEY WEDDING INVITATIONS

Even though I have a really keen sense of envisioning how invitations will look in various colors and finishes, I'm still always amazed when it comes together even better than I imagined. The Plaza suite is one of my more popular designs - it's like a good Chanel, never goes out of style.

The original Plaza was done in black letterpress and gold foil, and over the years brides have mostly stuck to that color palette, which is fine, because why mess with perfection? But then Kaitlan came along and asked if she could have the Plaza suite printed in champagne foil with blush and ivory accents. It's the exact same design, but done in this palette it feels entirely different.

Kaitlan's Plaza is fresh, sweet, and oh-so-soft. Don't you think? It was the perfect way to introduce guests to her overall ivory, blush, and gold wedding that took place in New Jersey at the Rockleigh Country Club. We printed the invitation on double-thick ivory cotton paper with champagne gold foil, the reply card was printed in the same foil but on single ply cotton paper, and the insert card was digitally printed in a beautiful sand color on a blush metallic card stock. The entire suite was literally brought together with the softest metallic ivory belly band printed in the same sand color as the insert card. Once assembled, everything was neatly tucked into a blush metallic envelope.

Here's to hoping that this classically soft ivory, blush, and gold palette never goes out of style!
