Paper Cuts: Must Have Office Supplies

Whether you're a self-proclaimed paper junkie, a small business owner, or the CEO of your household; we've all got our must-have supplies that keep our ships sailing straight.

You might be expecting an incredibly pretty collection of office supplies from me, as stationery designer and all, but I'm all about functionality here. While I do love pretty things (like this gold and lucite stapler, hello there), what I rely on every day are the very functional tools that keep my business organized and running.

Here's a roundup of the office supplies that I cannot live without.

1- Storage Boxes. I have hundreds of sample invitations, envelopes, and design proofs that I need to keep organized. These boxes are clean, addorable, and the perfect size for storing stationery.

2- Tape Gun. This bad boy is a game changer when it comes to lining envelopes and mounting invitations. I could sit in front of the TV, watch movies, and line envelopes all night long. My husband actually really likes using it too, which is wonderful because I'm always happy to have an extra pair of hands come assembly time.

3- Stamps.com. Shipping is one of my highest expense as a business owner. Stamps.com allows me to set up a business account with discounted shipping rates. I use commercial base printing and print all of my shipping labels at home. I also schedule 90% of my shipments to be picked up from my front door. This allows me to spend less time waiting at the post office, and more time lining envelopes in front of the TV (just kidding, sort of).

4- Washi Tape. I use gold stripe washi tape for pretty much everything. I write notes to all of my customers and seal the envelopes with a touch of tape; I mark my calendar with a touch of tape; I put a touch of tape on the tissue paper I package orders with; and I sometimes use the tape to mark frozen leftovers in the freezer. Seriously.

5- Water Bottle. Several years ago I landed myself in the emergency room after fainting from dehydration (I also had Mononucleosis). It wasn't fun at all, and since then I've been diligent about drinking 64+oz of water a day. I keep this 32oz Nalgene bottle with me all day, and even took it to meetings with me when I was working full-time. I drink one bottle in the morning, and one in the afternoon.

6- Sharp Scissors. I tie a lot of bows, which means I rely on super sharp scissors to keep my cut lines crisp and neat. Fun tip that my husband taught me: if you have ribbon that is fraying along the edges, carefully run the edges over the flame of a lighter. The heat will melt and fuse the end of the ribbon together.
